Lots of people are having trouble installing VMWare Server on Ubuntu 8.04 (LTS). The primary reason is that VMWare Server was compiled using libraries that were replaced in 8.04.

If you are getting errors similar to below, just follow the simple steps after the jump.

/usr/lib/vmware-server/bin/vmware-server-console: /usr/lib/vmware-server/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib32/libcairo.so.2)

Have you messed up or somehow deleted your service console on your VMWare server? Have you moved your ESX server to a new VLAN, subnet, or facility? How do you get your ESX server to respond via the Service Console if the IP addresses don’t match? The answer is esxcfg-vswif.

esxcfg-vswif - This is the tool to manage your Ethernet interfaces for the Service Console. Forget what you used in previous versions of ESX Server, the “eth” prefix is history.

Ran into this issue today where a users contacts were no longer syncing with his Blackberry. This can happen when there are Outlook Contacts that have no name as well as just a buggy sync. Here’s the process I followed to get it working again:

1. Make sure you have no contacts with a blank name. Every contact needs to have at least a first or last name, or a company name. In Outlook contacts with no name appear under Unamed.
2. Remove Battery for a couple minutes, replace, and power on your phone.
3. Wait about 20 minutes, if you still don’t get a sync, then try:
A. From your Black Berry go to Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation
B. Hold down <ALT> and type CNFG
C. You will enter a hidden menu, from there change “Wireless Sync” to No.
D. Exit this menu, and save.
E. Wait 30 seconds, repeat A-C but this time change “Wireless Sync” to Yes.
F. Exit the menu, save, and a new sync should start that should have your missing contacts.

This is the famous “Atari Computer Desk” photo that’s been posted all over the web recently. I’m displaying it here to spotlight the Star Wars - Return of the Jedi glasses from Burger King. It’s been a while since the last one I owned was destroyed by the ide dispenser in my mom’s fridge. -Welcome back old friend!

Who doesn’t wish they were 9 years old again? Here’s another shot of the glasses from an eBay auction (notice the E.T. Glasses in the background):

In Outlook 2003 you may not see your Outlook Address Book in the drop down for all Contacts. This can be a hassle if you have contacts in Outlook but not in your Global Address List.

1.  On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
2.  Click to select View or change existing directories or address books, and then click Next.
3.  If your Outlook Address Book is listed, click Cancel, and then go to the steps in the “How to Mark Your Contact Folder for Use with Your Address Book” section.
4.  If your Outlook Address Book is not listed, click Add.
5.  Click to select Additional Address Books, and then click Next.
6.  Click to select Outlook Address Book, and then click Next.
7.  Click OK when you receive the prompt that the address book you added will not start until you click Exit from the File menu.
8.  Click Finish.
9.  Click Exit from the File menu, and then restart Outlook.

The publicly traded Reading International Inc. http://www.readingrdi.com , which owns the Tower Theatre in Land Park, has recently completed a purchase of 15 of the 29 movie theaters operated by Pacific Theatres Exhibition Corp.  which operates theaters in the central valley.

I was actually surprised to learn that the Tower Theatre is owned by a big, publicly traded company that typically does not improve theatres to compete, rather sells off property when it becomes more valuable.

The rest of the story is here.
